Setting provides a framework for a story to form around and plot determines how a story develops in relation to the setting and other elements. This week you will look at some o the most basic elements in the semiotic development of a short story.
This week, make sure that you:
- Review the vocabulary provided in the Learning Resources
- View the presentations provided in the Learning Resources section of this module;
- Read each of the short stories listed in Learning Resources
- Pay close attention to the provided rubric as you complete the week's Classwork paper.

- Identify plot and setting elements within each of this week's short stories.
- Analyze, compare, and evaluate the use of plot and setting in the short stories linked in this section.
- Classify select sub-elements of plot and setting within a short story utilizing this week's vocabulary.
- Research critical discussion, evaluate claims, and synthesize the ideas within those discussions with your own as you critically analyze specific short stories
- Construct a very short analysis of a short story focussing on one key element.
